Tusshar Kapoor’s recently released book 'Bachelor Dad: My Journey To Fatherhood And More' is majorly about his decision to become a single father and how his life changed after the birth of his son, Lakshhya. However, at certain points, he has also revealed about the happenings in his professional life. One such development that he has mentioned is turning producer with Laxmii (2020).
Tusshar Kapoor revealed in the book that it was way back in 2013 that he decided to become a producer, along with a friend (Shabinaa Khan). They decided to remake the super-hit Tamil horror-comedy, Muni 2: Kanchana (2011), as they believed that it had the potential to work with the Hindi audiences. In August that year, they managed to secure the rights. Tusshar wrote that the leading man they had in mind also agreed to come on board. The actor, obviously, was happy with the developments.
However, in 2014, things went south as “a couple of leading members of the film’s cast expressed their inability to be a part of the film, owing to a certain disconnect with their characters and roles in the script.” He added that these actors behaved in a dignified manner and encouraged Tusshar to go ahead with the project without them.
Interestingly, Tusshar doesn’t reveal the name of the actor who was the original choice. However, it's common knowledge that Ajay Devgn was the original choice for the lead in the horror-comedy remake. In fact, in December 2013, Tusshar had confirmed to a tabloid that “Yes, Ajay Devgn will lead the cast of Kanchana though it's been quite difficult to get his dates. We will go on floors in August 2014.”
Meanwhile, in July 2014, as per a news report, Ajay Devgn walked out of the film as he was supposed to wear a saree and make-up for a crucial scene in the climax when he gets possessed by the ghost of a transgender. And the actor was not comfortable donning the female attire.
In August 2014, during the promotions of Singham Returns, when the superstar was asked whether he’s doing Laxmii, Ajay replied, “As of now I am. They are working on the script. Once Singham Returns releases, I will be hearing their script. A lot of people think I will be playing the transgender, but a lot of things have been changed from the original. That is why there is speculation about me playing the transgender. They are working on the script and the final draft has to be read.”
However, Ajay had to ultimately decline to work on the film. Finally, in 2018, Akshay Kumar came on board and signed the lead part in the film.
