Producer Jerry Bruckheimer spoke to Yahoo! recently about the training process the cast underwent, courtesy Tom Cruise. "He put the actors through this grueling process over three months so they could take the G-forces when we put them in the F/A-18s," he said.

"It was really a tough slog for these young actors because they also had to go through water survival training, where they are blindfolded and put in a water tank that’s turned upside down and they have to figure out how to get out. And Tom went through all the same stuff! They told me he went through that training just like a 22-year-old would — that's how good he is," Jerry Bruckheimer further revealed.

Back in February 2020, Miles Teller had also said that they had to submit written reports to Tom Cruise. “He was so dialed into everything we were doing,” Teller said. “After every flight, we had to give a full-on written report that went directly to Tom. Tom could play all of our parts in this movie, and it’d be the most thrilling thing you’ve ever seen.”

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: "Rooster," the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka "Goose". Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

Top Gun: Maverick is set to release on June 26, 2020. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis and Danny Ramirez star in the upcoming movie.
